The Coconut Chronicles / My Dad's Teriyaki Salmon!

Hi all!

Just writing to let you know about the spotlight on Playing With My Food over at the Coconut Chronicles blog.  Man, I think this is so cool!

Coconut Chronicles was created in 2003 by the globe-trotting, spontaneous, cat-loving, opinionated (in a good way), and very funny Kristene Perron, as a weekly newsletter to help family and friends keep up with her while she was living with her hubby in the Caribbean.  It has turned into a smartly-written blog about whatever happens to be on Kristene's mind, from observations about human nature and life, to travel, to cats, to writing, and all sorts of interesting gems in between.

Kristene!
Kristene is a family friend and my former next-door neighbor.  In a past life she was a stunt-woman, and is now a published author of her first novel, Warpworld (www.warpworld.ca).  Warpworld is the first instalment in a five-part sci-fi book series, and if you like The Hunger Games you will love this book!

Here is the blurb from the back cover:
"On his first crossing through the warps, Seg discovers a world rich in vita - fuel to save his dying world.  Cold, brilliant, and desperate to prove himself as a Cultural Theorist, Seg breaks away from the recon squad sent to protect him, to scout out prime vita sources.  But to find his prize he must face his biggest fear: water.
Fiery and headstrong, Ama receives an ultimatum from her people's tyrannical overlords:  betray her own kind or give up the boat she calls home, forever.  When a wealthy traveler hires her as a guide, Ama thinks her prayers are answered - until a violent murder reveals Seg's true identity.
On the run, over land and water, hunted by a ruthless and relentless tracker, and caught in the schemes of a political powerhouse, Seg and Ama will have to strike an uneasy truce to survive.
The fate of two worlds is in their hands."

Reading the book, I can't help but feel like the character of Ama is loosely based on Kristene herself!?

Kris loves boats.  Ama loves boats.  Hmm...this is getting 'fishy.'

The second book in the series, Wasteland Renegades, is coming out in September 2013, which means that if you read Warpworld now, you will be able to slip right into the second instalment without having to wait for it to come out like I did.  Lucky!

You can also check out all sorts of great reviews for the book on Good Reads.

The Coconut Chronicles blog post also features my rendition of my dad's way-too-delicious BBQ'd Teriyaki Salmon recipe, which is coincidentally what I want to eat right now.  Instead, I ate a very boring salad for dinner because I gained six pounds this summer, purely in beer calories and dip calories.  The weigh-in was this morning, and today is officially my third 'Day 1 of the diet' in the past couple of weeks, after a few failed 'diet starts tomorrow!' attempts.  All of the fun that was had this summer was worth it though.

Anyway, thanks again to Kris for featuring me on The Coconut Chronicles.  I'm grinning from ear to ear!
